R51 Upgrades

#1 Post by syQ » Wed Dec 28, 2005 10:13 am

Hey there... Ive had my Thinkpad R51 for some time now, and the kids has been wanting to use the laptop more and more..

Just last week my son came to me and asked if it could go a bit faster, and I started looking through the internet...

I checked the Bios to see if I could do something there, and I noticed that there is a video boot order setting that has two options ... PCI or internal Graphics...

Is it possible to upgrade/replace the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 video card ?

another question...

When looking for ram... I have been in a bit of troubles... what is it I should get.. I ordered some rams off the internet, but recived rams for a desktop computer... any help on that one ?

You can't upgrade the internal graphics. The PCI boot option is if you have a Dock connected and a PCI graphics card in the Dock.

As for RAM, you need DDR SO-DIMM. R51 uses PC2700 (333 MHz) DDR RAM. Try buying from some place that displays a list to let you choose what type of computer you have.

If you're willing to let them do a Vulcan Mind Meld on your machine go to http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ and it will determine what kind of memory, and how much memory, you can put in your machine.

Crucial is the consumer wing of Micron.
