"USB device not recognized" on T42p. HELP!

#1 Post by miccocan » Fri Dec 30, 2005 1:55 pm

Hi
i have a thinkpad T42p for a year right now, everything seems to work fine until few days ago suddenly all USB device plug into my usb port have problem. especially i plug in my 2.5" external hard disk case as usual, but now a bubble will pop up saying USB device not recognized, i click on the bubble in get a USB root tree that doesnt tell me the problem. i am pretty sure is not any USB hardware problem because i try all of them on other computer and it works fine.

other funny things include 1)my USB 2.0 flash thumb drive works, but it saids my device is a low speed device, works as a 1.1
2)my canon printer which suppose to use very little power have the same problem as my external harddisk.

i already reinstall the whole OS back to factory default, still no luck, anyway i can fix it? i really hope it is not usb port that have problem, because my comp is refurbished and i only have 1 year warrenty. please help me i need to transfer my data from harddisk back to my comp since i recovered it.

You probably need to replace the system board. This is based on a number of posts on this site with the identical problem. Do a search using the button at the top of the screen on: USB 2.0 , choose Search for all terms and ThinkPad T4X Series only forum.
