Formatting CDs/DVDs - a Joke??
Formatting CDs/DVDs - a Joke??
So I tried to burn data to a CDRW today. My Z60M formatted the disc and took about 50 minutes. Then it rejected the disc saying that it was corrupt. I tried 3 more new blanks and the same thing every time.
I tried 2 of the Dell desktops in the office and they burned to the discs instantly.
WTF??
Why the ridiculous formatting time on my laptop, and none on the desktops?
Amd why would the discs all be classified as corrupt or damaged?
HELP

It's important to use compatible quality media, especially with certain drives that are more picky.

Well...
I guess it is the built-in XP tool. I used the Multimedia Center for Think tool.dr_st wrote:How did you try to burn? Using WinXP's built-in tool, or some program? What did you try to burn?
Jabbar, I appreciate your response. And I read the link page, but it really just told me that I need to buy something. Didn't really answer my questions though...
Cheers,
Neil

Hrm. If you right click on the CD drive in Explorer, do you see the "DLA" item on the popup? I wonder if you're formatting the, whatsitcalled, UDF format for Sonic DLA on it.
Also ... there's been a recent update for Sonic DLA and Record Now, probably useful for the new 60's. Search for recent posts by me, you'll find it.
Another idea: once you've got Sonic RecordNow updated, try burning a CDRW with that.
It's mo' better, IMHO.

BTW, I suggest you reevaluate that page Gom suggested to you, it DOES have several pieces of info that you may need. For one, section 5. mentions Sonic DLA. IBM is providing that on some TPs, so you may have it. You may need to know the difference. Further, there's a paragraph about "trouble reading discs" which links to a Microsoft MSKB article ... good reading, too.

Correct
You are absolutely correct. I found that out the hard way myself. I scanned the page too quickly, was impatient.davidspalding wrote:Hrm.
