About Tabook

#1 Post by dr_st » Tue Jan 24, 2006 5:27 am

A while ago I realized that the Tabook DOES NOT cover all the possible Thinkpad models and configurations.

For instance, my T42 2373-F7G is not there (never been there, as far as I can tell, and doesn't appear in any of the "withdrawn" books too).

I was thinking that maybe it appears there under a different model number for some reason, but every similar one I looked at still differed by something (perhaps one component).

At one point I wasn't even able to find the 2373-F7G on Lenovo's site.

Question is - is there any reliable source of information that lists ALL Thinkpad models out there (at least the current ones)?

The product section on http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... country=us knows about all the model configurations, and will give you a basic summary, including the "base" model that many of the volume builds for large customers are variations on.

If you just put the 4 digit type number into the Product Number entry box and click "Go". That will put you into a "Browse By Product" screen with "All Models" in the model field. If you click on the "down arrow" on the field, all the known models for that Thinkpad type will be displayed. Find your particular model and then click on "Continue" which will take you to a "Important Information" screen that has the model configuration summary displayed.

Its not 100% accurate but its usually pretty close.

Your particular T42 type/model shows as ....

Product: ThinkPad T42 2373-F7G [change]

Original description: P M 745(1.8GHz), 512MB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HDD, 15in 1400x1050 LCD, 64MB ATI Radeon 9600, CD-RW/DVD-R Multi-Burner, Intel 802.11bg wireless(MPCI), Bluetooth/Modem(CDC), 1Gb Ethernet(LOM), UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint Reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Cheers,

Bill

Thanks! I wonder why they don't put it into the Tabooks. Are there just too many models out there?

The M3U differs in display size, hard disk and optical drive.

The closest I found is the 2373-CYU, but that has the IBM WiFi and not the Intel one, which I have.
