That is excellent for 236 cycles, I didn't take notice of the cycles of the battery that came with my used T23 for a while. Apparently after a few months of use it had 12 cycles I think and was first used in January 05, it held a nearly perfect charge. Off the top of my head I think its lost 2mwh.

How do I ses how many cycles? My battery usually managed to last 2h, but suddenly i just lost 30 min, so now i can squeeze out 1h30 min if lucky... I have used it much, just didnt think it would drop so suddenly.

6-cell 230+ cycles...DOA
6-Cell 91 cycles..shows green, has lost about 10WH capacity
9-Cell 7.2WH...New..1 cycle, charges to 7.76WH
Ultra-slim bay battery, 2 cycles, goes 1WH above max charge.

If you are using the Battery Maximizer program (the little green battery icon that shows the percentage of the battery that remains), you can left click the green battery icon, and choose Battery Information. Then click on the Battery Health Button on the initial page that pops up.

T42, 6-cell, 38 cycles.
Design capacity: 47.52Wh
Full charge capacity: 45.05Wh
Was as low as 42-43Wh. Reconditioning restored some of the full charge capacity.

R31 2656-6FU
First Use date: 03/2002
Cycle count: 148
Full cap charge: 13.65 Wh
Design capacity: 43.20 Wh
I can get just over an hour with this one; originally I could run for over 3 hours. Pretty soon this battery is going to be a paperweight.

Hi all,
Wondering as to at which remaining capacity would IBM consider a battery as faulty. Would it be less than 75% design capacity charge?
My campus notebook warranty (T43) covers the battery for a whopping 3 years..

problem

When I left click the battery maximiser icon, i get a menu but i'm unable to view the battery info. What can be the reason for this? I have a T40 2374 with XP Pro SP2

Open the "Thinkpad Configuration" utility, click on "System Administration", then click on the "Battery Information" tab. This will show you the current battery info.
Cheers,
Bill

The following thread indicates that the T40 and T41 do not have all the battery features of the T42 and newer machines.

The capacity goes down through regular wear. This isn't covered by the warranty.
Heavy users would be able to use up a battery (reducing the capacity to less than say 50 % of design capacity) within a year and so IBM would have to replace those even under the standard 1 year warranty if the system worked the way you would like it to.

X24 2662-MQG
Battery FRU: 02K6760 (design capacity: 43.20Wh)
Main battery:
Manufactured date: 2002-05-28
Cycle count: 54
Full charge capacity: 38.18Wh
Spare battery:
Manufactured date: 2002-03-04
Cycle count: 4
Full charge capacity: 43.20Wh (great for a battery that sat on the shelf for more than 3 years!)
I get around 3 hours out of both.

I found completely depleting the battery and recharging works well for getting back a bit of your battery life.
First completely charge
Then completely drain
---dont use the recycle function in battery maximiser
---disable all warning and hybernate
---just let it naturally drain and die
Then completely recharge
Repeat
You will be amazed on how long it stays on 0%.
I think the program gets confused where its min/max levels are set.

Yesterday I drained the battery down to 3% while working then recharged it.
Now it displays 40 cycles, full charge capacity 46.03Wh.

I tried that with a generic X22 battery from ebay. It was supposed to be 4400mAh, but the designed capacity was only 38Wh. That is even lower than the original IBM battery. However, at 0% it stayed alive for 30 more minutes. It wasn't doing too much though. I was trying to drain it by searching through files.
