False Dual Boot

#1 Post by TomStearns » Wed Jan 25, 2006 12:26 am

I am struggling with an X24---trying to get the drivers & O/S working smoothly. It behaves as though it has two different personalities---
settings change from episode to episode.

The 40G drive shows as 35G so apparently I have a hidden partition with an O/S, drivers, etc.

During the boot sequence it asks me which O/S I want---W2K Pro or W2K Pro? If I select the bottom one the machine hangs.

I have a full download & install of 2662 MPX drivers on the 35G sector

How do I cure this beast?

If you navigate to Control Panel-->Administrative tools-->Computer Management and click on "Disk management" in the left pane, you should be able to see if you have an installed IBM Service partition. If you do, you may just want to do a system restore.

This post may be helpful if you don't see an option to restore the system when booting up: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=17527

The IBM link applies to A's T's & X2's up to X23's. X24's may have a different process.

If the service partition is there and you can figure out how to access it, that's probably the easiest solution.
