Active Protection ver. 1.34 buggered? ... [solved]

Following a recent reinstallation of WinXP and other software (thinkvantage, etc) I noticed that the shutdown time on my laptop increased to over 20 seconds, which is way too long. It would shutdown within 5 seconds on a bare windows installation and even after I'd installed a bunch of software. But at some point after an update the system shutdown slowed quite noticeably. The event log kept showing the following:

Description: Windows saved user <domain\user> registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in the local system account.

Extensive testing finally revealed that the APS software (Active Protection System ver 1.34) is the main culprit of this problem. The other problem driver is the fingerprint reader (5.4). When I uninstall both current versions of these packages my windows shutdown returns to a normal 5 seconds. Since I never experienced shutdown problems with the older software I'd like to reinstall these older drivers.

Where can I download past versions of thinkvantage software? APS and fingerprint software in particular?

The C:\IBMTOOLS\ subfolders has the original drivers and software - if you haven't deleted it off of your ThinkPad. There generally is no download site for older drivers, although occasionally you can find them with Google on a Japanese or other site.

If you don't have the above directory, your best bet is to request the driver and the version number desired on this forum, and someone will likely e-mail it to you. Large files usually have to be broken up with a program like WinZip to be e-mailed, then reassembled when extracted with WinZip.

Didn't have the original driver on my machine (fresh XP install) but I found version 1.32 on an ftp site (using ftp search). Installation of the older version cleared things up right away. Enjoying the added HDD protection without the shutdown woes.
