Annoying Hard Disk Vibration under Palm Rests...

Hello all,

I just upgraded the Hard Disk in my x30 to a Samsung 5400 rpm 40GB model (link if anyone is interested: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822152501)

While the Hard Disk is super-quiet as advertised, there is a LOT of vibration under my palm rests and even most of the keyboard that was not there before. It's almost to the point where it feels like I am being shocked from the vibration which is extremely uncomfortable.

I have tried using some dampening material to really secure the drive to the plastic outer-casing piece, but it seems as if the vibration is traveling from the IDE connection on the Motherboard to the rest of the chassis.

Has anyone ever had this problem before? Did I just get a bad drive and need to return? Any suggestions appreciated. BTW I had a Toshiba 30GB in this laptop before (not original) that, while very loud produced absolutely no vibration.

Thanks,
Elliott

Update:

I just returned the drive and ordered a Seagate 40GB 5200RPM that was about the same price. I actually wish I had ordered the seagate in the first place as the warranty is longer and I've always used their drives.

Hopefully this drive will not exhibit the same vibration issues, but maybe this is inherent when going from 4200rpm - 5400rpm?

If anyone has ever experienced a similar situation please respond, thank you.
