Memory question

Will a DDR2 memory work on a thinkpad that originally uses DDR? I would like to upgrade my R51 to 1GB. There aren't any available in my country except for a few DDR2 on ebay philippines. I can't bid on ebay US because I only have my local currency (Philippine peso) to shell out.
