Thinkpad external keyboard problems.

#1 Post by Rax » Mon Mar 06, 2006 11:19 am

Hi,

Having a small problem with my X41 and wondering if anyone can help.

Over the last little while, I’ve been having input problems with my external keyboard and mouse. For no apparent reason, both will suddenly act as if the SHIFT key has been locked on. It also screws up the mouse mightily, since it acts as if you are continuously ‘click-dragging’.

I’m also having spurious keyboard input – as in, extra letters, spaces, numbers, and other characters randomly appearing. Hammering on the shift key several times seems to rectify the problem until it happens again.

As you can imagine, both are causing major problems for me – as I’m spending a lot of time backspacing to fix errors.

I’m using a standard IBM keyboard and Microsoft mouse hooked up to the Ultrabase. Luckily, my co-worker has the exact same setup, so I’ve switched every piece of hardware except the X41 itself to no avail – meaning the problem is either in the thinkpad or the software. Yet, the problem never happens when I’m using the built-in keyboard or pointer.

Any ideas? I’ve totally disabled sticky-keys and all those features (or so I hope).

Thanks!
