560X keyboard rules!

#1 Post by Nolonemo » Mon Mar 13, 2006 7:33 pm

I pulled my old 560X out of the closet, got a battery for it from ebay and have been setting it up with Win98 as a word processing laptop for my kid. Man, is the 560 keyboard solid! Makes my T23 keyboard feel like a trampoline. Still a great little machine, within its limits.

Ironically enough, I just closed a deal on this forum to get a 560X. After seeing that you hd to make a new post to see this, I really can't wait to be able to test your claim. I hope the 560X keyboard can compare with my 600E. If so, I might make the 560X my everyday computer since I don't always trust my 600E around all my classmates.

My personal favorite keyboards have been:
ThinkPad 600 (great tactile feedback, sounds great and is solid)
ThinkPad 570 (very similar to 600)
ThinkPad 755 (why can't KeyTronic make all laptop keyboards?)
ThinkPad 380 (very easy on the fingers without feeling cheap)
ThinkPad 350

My #1 least favorite is the 760 keyboard, it is great at first but after lots of use the keyboard gets less responsive, more stiff and harsher on the fingers.

Please post what you think, I'm curious. From what I recall, people rave about the 600 keyboard over the T2x series, but I can't see how they could be much better than the 560s. BTW you can get a brand new 560x KB on ebay for $20 shipped or less, a brand new keyboard is especially sweet!

I just recieved my 560X today (YAY!) and this is probably the fastest I've ever seen the USPS deliver a package, it was just sent out Saturday. Now if only that box that a differnt forum member sent me two weeks ago would arrive, it seems the USPS is a real wildcard.

After spending a good bit of time cleaning off the residue from some key overlays that were once on the computer, I tried the keyboard and it is very nice, every bit as good as the one on my 380ED. I could type on it all day. However, the keyboard on my 600E has a more solid feel to it so I'm still going to put the 600E in the higher rank. Still, it's a very tough and very close call as the 560 is very comfortable but because there was some flimsiness present that my 600E didn't have, the 600E wins by a few hairs.

Vouching for my 560X, after sitting down with the computer for a few minutes, my 600E now seems big and heavy. It's hard to believe the various 560 model laptops were sold in the same generation and lineup as the 760 and 770 model ThinkPads. My 760E feels like a freaking monster now.
