If Lenovo sends a replacement can I simply swap Hard Drive?
If Lenovo sends a replacement can I simply swap Hard Drive?
Here's my situation...
The T60 I got less than 2 weeks ago doesn't seem
very stable.
Lenovo just shipped me a replacement and I am
getting ready to ship the old one back.
Question...
The new T60 that arrived today has the EXACT same
hardware specs (memory/processor/etc.) as the one
I am returning.
Can I simply swap the hard drive out of my old unit
put it into the new unit and expect it to work perfectly?
I'd hate to start from scratch with a new hard drive after
all the program installs and tweaks I have done thus far.
Thansk in advance!

You could, but if the problems you've been having are SW based (and I think they are IMHO), they'll simply show up on the new machine as well.
IIRC, you have a week to return the replacement machine, but if this was a replacement PURCHASE, then you have to send the old machine back within the 30 day original purchase period.
If you have the time to swap the HDs and play with the new machine, do so.
Regards,
James

or to avoid any possible complications with lenovo make a image of you current hdd (as long as you said both machines are identical) and then run it on the new one.
use for imaging R&R, Ghost, Acronis, whatever you feel like (i recomend from end to beginning)

May want to let them know. They apparantly scan those serial numbers if you ever get repairs. Not sure how it would effect any warranty. Since it would be a factory part, but not the one linked to your machine serial number.

HD, processor etc...as far as the T4X series; the S# has been part of the BIOS 9.9 out of 10 X's no one ever updates the serial numbers for anything. The system serial 9.9 out of 10 gets updated...even the mobo S# is a 50/50 shot....I don't think they are going to waist resources trying to figure out what HD belongs were; unless the HD has no FRU sticker on and and has another manufacturers P/N (Dell uses WD, Hitachi, etc; but they had Dell P/N's on them) IBM never labeled (as far as I could tell) as "IBM FRU" instead they placed a black label on it with the size, FRU and PN.......DIGITALgimpus wrote:May want to let them know. This is my feeling as well, as I have read your posts here quite carefully. If you start over again with a new machine, the time it takes to customize it to your liking is a worthwhile investment. Yes, I know it's a pain... but I believe that you might spend the same amount of time or more, using Acronis, trying different drives, performing various tests etc, only to find out that not much has been accomplished. Again, just some thoughts from a fellow ThinkPad user.
