thinkpad with mac airport wireless

#1 Post by akivaf » Thu Apr 20, 2006 11:52 pm

hi there,

i just got a brand new T60 (200-764u). I'm at a friend's house, and she has an airport wireless network setup here. I can't seem to connect to it because of problems authenticating.

is there any reason that a thinkpad couldn't connect to an airport wireless router?

thanks guys

bueller? i would like to know the answer to this question too!

i am assuming that airport is not 802.11 or modified and thus proprietary to non apples, correct? if the airport router were set up using real 802.11 abg, then it would work for a thinkpad?

I am a Mac user, but I do not have airport. Quick check on Apple's website suggests that airport can be 802.11b or g. Is the T60 set to the compatible mode?

Depends on the Airport. It's it's 802.11g, and using WPA (I'm pretty sure they support WPA) and you have only an 802.11b (which doesn't support WPA) you'll get that error.

Make sure that the Mac Aiport is on. Also, ensure T60 wirless is on. If needs be, do a Function +F5 to turn on the wireless.

On the T60, look for a control panel called Network Connections and then use Wireless Network Connection in the sub-menu. Use the View Wireless Network button to find the Mac airport signal.

Hope it works.
