Lenovo part info tool: Able to detect changes in parts?

#1 Post by akhran » Fri Apr 21, 2006 7:00 am

If a part is replaced with another part that has a different FRU from the original part, will the new FRU be updated in the part info tool in the url below:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo

Does the tool work by probing the individual part or is it based on the serial number of the laptop?

Thanks.

No. The tool merely sniffs your machine type from the BIOS and reports what the machine was equipped with when it left the factory.

i detected the 1gb of ram i added but highlighted it blue. i have no idea what the blue means. i didn't bother to look for a legend. i only looked at it briefly.

Seems to also use your serial number.
