Compact Wifi PCMCIA card?

#1 Post by ambientscape » Mon Apr 24, 2006 1:49 am

I would like to know if there's a PCMCIA wireless card that doesn't stick out of the pc card slot?? I mean those which fit nicely inside the slot...making it invisible.

3com makes card that slide inside the PCMCIA card slot and the antenna can be pushed in and out AKA xjack.

This one is 802.11 a/b/g

There is also another one that is 802.11 b/g that is cheaper.

I've got a couple of those, and they work well; good reception and they save battery life since they power down when you push the antenna back in. I see you've got a 3Com card listed in your sig, so if you've already got one and were hoping for something that doesn't stick out ever, the only route is to mount some sort of internal device if you're laptop's got miniPCI capability.

Thanks for the recommendation of daeojkim and epbrown......Well the 3Com pc card I have now only support 802.11 b and its old. I've thought of the mini pci thingy....but after a careful consideration...I've opted to the pc card without " "operating" my laptop.

The 3COM X-Jack a/b/g card works very well although it's a bit expensive when compared to offerings from other manufacturers.

I've got a bunch of these cards in various Thinkpads and have always been very happy with them. Especially in my Transnote.
