HDD Firmware Upgrade "Command Interpreter" Error

Hardware is ThinkPad A31P. OS is Win XP. Hard drive (HDD) is 80 GB.
I went to IBM (Lenovo) and downloaded the file (fwhd41.iso) to burn a bootable CD containing the HDD Firmware update utility. Changed BIOS to boot first from CD drive (so far so good). When I start up with the CD in the drive, I get a DOS message "Bad or Missing Command Interpreter" and can get no farther in the boot or firmware upgrade process. Machine recovers fine when I remove the CD and restart to WinXP.

Any clues on how I can get past this error message and do the HDD firmware upgrade? Thanks to anyone who can help this new member to this site. I should have been visiting this site for the 3 plus years I have had this machine.

You could try to burn a new CD, but that may not help.

When I was making a bootable slipstreamed Windows XP CD, the only program I had success with that would make a CD that actually booted was Nero. I tried IBM RecordNow!, Roxio, and Nero. Maybe you should try Nero or another CD burning program.
