TOSHIBA 0.7A versus 0.5A Hitachi & others

Hi everyone!
Anyone have problems with Toshiba HDDs in ThinkPads? Does the 0.7A matter at all?
I've tried to format the drive (MK4021GAS) in a T20 2647, attempting to install Win2000pro. It repeated seven clicks then a pause. (just noticed there is a compaq sticker on the drive- does this make any difference?)
I tried the same thing switching the drive to a A21m 2628 with the same results.
Ran Hitachi drive fitness test, and came up with:
Low System Performance
Disposition Code = 0x45
What does this mean???
(placing the drive in a USB 2.0 HD enclosure, my A21p system recognized the removable drive, and I was able to quick format NTFS only - "long" formatting hung up, repeating the clicks and pauses) HELP
Wow- I just pulled a IC25N040ATCS04-0 Travelstar and it's 1.0A
I'm really confused now.
