Just came home from college with my T43. I want to hear my music on my laptop through my home theater system. What do I need? I went out an bought an Stereo Audio/S-Video output cord for it becaues that is what was recommened before i open it i want to make sure that this what was agreed on?

Well i got the answer to my question. I don't think it works. I got a three pronged sterod audio cable. Two were red and white and third was S-video. on my reciever. well since the only one that fits is the s-video i plugged those two in. As i expected it didn't work. Radio shack is the only store near me but i don't think they know what they are talking about.

All you need is an RCA to 1/8" mini jack cable. Radio shack will definitely have it. The RCA (one red, one white) will connect to an aux jack on your receiver. The 1/8" mini plug goes into the headphone jack on your laptop.

Mini stereo phone plug to two RCA plugs.

There's no audio component to an S-Video connector.

You can use the same cable with a Y RCA female to single 1/8" stereo phono jack to connect to the headphone output on the ThinkPad. Here is something that would work with the cable you already bought.

If you have a digital camera that came with an "A/V cable" (as Fujifilm called it on the box of my S5500), try that. It's effectively what the stereo phone plug to RCA plugs cable is. I've used mine on both my T40 and my Dell without any dramas.

Are you sure? All of the ones that came with my cameras were monaural splitters, not stereo. E.g. the mini-phone plug is only two conductor, not three.

They'll work on your Thinkpad, but the output won't be stereo.

I used a cable just like this on a Toshiba Tecra 8100 and connected it to the headphone output of my Tecra. I was able to DJ my own wedding about 5 years ago. I got a lot of compliments on the set up, even from a DJ friend that was still using older equipment, because he didn't realize that it could be done.

Sorry - wasn't explicit enough in saying there were just the 2 plugs. Plus my stereo's just a simple Sharp mini stereo (the limitations that my sardine can of a bedroom "provides me with")

D'oh! I was going to recommend that, as I just ordered one from Amazon. But for twice what RS is asking (IF they have them in stores, AT that price). I've used these for years both to hook cd/pda/mp3 players to my hi-fi, and vice versa to record sound bites from the hi-fi.

I believe that cord is 8' too, which is a nice good reach. A mini-phono male to female extension cord (easily bought just about anywhere) can add to that.

All, note that Monster sells an "iPod iCable" that is essentially this same cord, maybe with lower quality (not "THX certified") for $30. Buyer beware: all things "i-" are not better and worth the premium price.

I'm skeptical. The mini-phono connector may be the same size, but likely has the wrong number/size of connectors on the pin. But without seeing it, I can't say for sure.
