difficulty installing Apple Quicktime

#1 Post by Esteban » Fri May 05, 2006 7:55 pm

I have a T42. I've tried to install Apple Quicktime for windows. I downloaded it, using my administrator status in Windows XP. I have been unable to get Quicktime to finish it's installation and run. Any ideas how to get it to work?

I prefer Quicktime for watching news media videos.

Have you tried the Quicktime Alternative codec?

I haven't tried it myself, but looks like it could be worth trying :)

Back again. I'm frustrated that I cannot get QT to run on my T42. Would really appreciate help. May try main T42 forum if no help here.

I've downloaded QuickTime several times to my T42 from Apple.com. I've not been able to get it to fully install. I prefer to use Apple's codec because I liked it on my prior Dell notebook running Win 2000. I prefer QT to WMP, though I'll use both. Some media sources I want to watch only have QT. So without it I'm left out in the cold.

I have installed the newest version of Quick Time on my T41, on my Netvista Desktop and on any number of client machines. It does install and does work. So:

1. Check in Add/Remove programs that it and any prior versions are uninstalled.
2. Search the Apple site for "manually uninstall quicktime". There is a standalone uninstaller. Try that (read the documenation about safe mode)
3. Check out the Apple discussion forums to see if anyone else had the problem.

This sounds like primarily a software problem as I am quite sure Quicktime should install fine on any XP system.

Have you tried making another account with admin access? If that doesn't work, I would try a scrub of the registry (with a tool like CCleaner) and then try installing QT again. If that doesn't work, a system re-install may be in order; just be sure to make backup disks first. :)
