Which Thinkpad?

#1 Post by BruisedQuasar » Mon May 15, 2006 11:18 am

I own a T-23 and I am happy with it. A friend of mine wants to upgrade from his Win 98SE generic PC. We discussed buying a notebook PC for his main PC. I know the T-23 is not the one for him as he does a lot of video, DVD movie burning, music, etc.

Which Thinkpad is best for graphics? It does not need to be an XP system but it does need to be at least a W2K PC.

graphics and sound are important but he is not a PC gamer. He will not be leaving the house with it and he will use a desktop monitor. USB ports & PC Card slots are important. He would like to keep the price below $600 (refurbished). Any suggestions?

Hands down the A31p is the best choice for graphics and music.

With its three drive bays he could have a system similar to mine with two 7K100 HDs and a DVD multi-burner.

I have mine connected to an external Dell 20" LCD running at UXGA (1600 x 1200) via the DVI connector on a Dock II.

Sometimes seen for under $500 on eBay and they're a steal at that price!

James

In addtiton, A31p is one of very few ThinkPads with built in firewire and only TP featuring S-video input with HW MPEG2 encoder... another great feature is dedicated audio line in in addition to mic in and line out... with fast CPU, 2GB RAM and couple of 7K100 HDDs is ultimate media system.

Just 2c from ahother happy A31p owner.

Thank you for the feedback! Sounds like the A31p is just the TP for my buddy! He paid well over $1200 for his Desktop System several years ago. He'll be glad to learn he can get a TP that is far superior for much less than that.
