Microsoft released a hotfix to fix problems with laptops not entering C-states properly. Early on, this issue caused reviews for core duo laptops to show worse battery life than expected when USB 2.0 devices are connected. I don't know how much of an impact this will have, but when the problem was initially discovered the extra battery drain was significant.

It fixes A problem. Whether it fixes YOUR problem, who can say?
Microsoft in article 918005 wrote:The portable computer cannot enter the deeper Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) processor idle sleep states..........This problem is fixed by installing the download that is available in this article.

The USB host controller is unable to turn off..........This problem is not fixed by installing the download that is available in this article.

The USB host controller uses the periodic scheduler for USB 2.0 devices..........This problem is not fixed by installing the download that is available in this article.

Note Various factors can affect the battery life of different portable computers that use different types of batteries. Therefore, you may not notice any improvement in battery life after you apply this update.
