ultrabay battery question/concern

#1 Post by dsigma6 » Tue May 30, 2006 5:11 pm

i noticed today that i cant boot up if i have the ultrabay battery installed- i assumed that i could boot with only the ultrabay battery, or at least with the regular battery and the 2nd, but it only boots off the the main battery.

is this just how it is, or is something wrong with my computer/2nd battery?

Which computer of yours cannot boot up from ultrabay battery?

I am not sure. I did a google and believed that it might be you never set your BIOS to detect the ultrabay battery.

im talking about my r40.

i didnt think it would require me to do anything with the bios. and last night it seemed to be reporting weird numbers through battery maximizer.

it was draining the main battery first, but i thought it was supposed to drain the ultrabay first...

Never tried booting off my Ultrabay Slim battery ... but normally, Power Manager drains the Ultrabay battery FIRST.

Same - if you press the eject release lever and have it sticking out, the battery, whislt still connected, doesn't drain until the main one runs out ;).

BTW, how do you see your time left instead of percentage (as in your picture)?

I tried booting off an Ultrabay Slim battery without a main battery - it fails.

The time remaining is a feature of Power Manager for T43: right-click and select "show remaining time as..." Not an option on Battery Maximizer.

I installed the Power Manager on my T41 despite it not being listed on the compatible list and it works fine and I now have the time displayed :D. Many thanks.

Rereading this, do I understand that you can't boot with both the primary and the Ultrabay battery in? If so, that's wrong. I boot with both batteries installed 70% of the time.
