Non-IBM Intel 2200BG wireless card in a Thinkpad?

Here's
one of several cheap auctions on ebay for an Intel 2200BG-based 802.11a/b/g Mini-PCI card.
My X22 came with the "High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with Modem" right now, which is good overall, but I wouldn't mind a little extra bandwidth.
It looks like the normal practice is to get an Intel 2200BG card that was originally in a Thinkpad, and then take the necessary steps to remove any BIOS errors. These cards are out there, but they're more expensive than the non-Thinkpad specific ones. Has anyone had any luck with the cheap generic cards?

If you get the IBM OEM version of the card, there are no BIOS errors to remove!

Is the error '1802' show up on screen during POST phase after you plug in the non-IBM OEM version of wireless card?
If so, you can also google 1802 'fix' utility. It can skip the verify procedure after you boot to DOS OS, run it and reboot your laptop. So your non-IBM OEM version of the card will work if you are luck.
According to my experience , it don't always work well on combination of all type wireless cards and all type thinkpad. It ever puzzled me long time. Hope it helps.

I installed a non-IBM Atheros AR5212 last week in my T40...only after applying the no 1802 hack via a bootable CD that I created from an ISO download at
http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/u ... ess-cards/ Seemed to work better for me than the .exe that's available elsewhere. Installed a driver for it and it works just fine now. So yes, I have had luck with a non-OEM card, as have others in the forum
