Hi. How can I disable the startup of Password Manager when I turn on my Thinkpad? I don't use this program, and it ask me a password every startup.... Thanks!

Are you referring to Client Security Solution, or Windows logon?

If you haven't already, hit the blue Access IBM button ... it represents your online user manual. Or just run Client Security Solution from the Start Menu and go to Advanced options (change logon settings).

Hi. Thanks for your answer. I try to change logon settings in Advance Options at Client Security Solutions, but I can´t disable Password Manager anyware! I really don´t need this program!

Add/Remove programs control panel...?

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Client Security Solution\Password Manager --- Disable [Change this value from 0 to 1.]

This should prevent Password Manager from automatically starting up.

Or alternatively install CSS with /NOPWMANAGER=1 on the command line to prevent Password Manager feature from being installed.

That should be in the windows registry. Run 'regedit' from command prompt. Great thread, I was going to ask the same thing. I use CSS for fingerprint authentication but have no desire for Password manager.

Hi ! I recently bought an IBM Thinkpad Z60m, with WinXP and ThinkVantage protection system installed. The problem is, everytime I open it, it tells me to install a Security Solution application. I have to close the "Client Security Solution Wizard" every time. It's very annoying and it gets on my nerves. Then I tried to finally check this security system out, see what it does, and I followed the procedure : Now I have to press Ctrl & Alt & Delete to give a password, and only then I can have access to my computer - at least the whole thing starts a litle bit quicker now. But even like this, it still tells me to install the security solution ( which I did). The problem is that I don't want to fool around with my computer, I just want it to open quickly, easily and with the press of a button. So how can I deactivate the whole thing and never let it annoy me again ? Plus, the computer starts more slowly than some other notebooks (eg. a Siemens a friend has opens in a few seconds, mine needs more than half a minute). Is that normal for a Thinkpad ?

Cuchulainn, I believe if you activate Fast-User Switching and remove the password from your account it will boot directly to the user. Also if that security application that pops up is the fingerprint software there is a checkbox for displaying at bootup. If not on the first dialog box it is under system settings.

nonyNony, is editing that entry in the registry essential the same thing as removing it from the startup list via msconfig?

You dont have to remove the password to boot directly to desktop, without typing your password. Just do this:

Start -> Run -> type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes). Uncheck "Users must ......" and press OK. Then type the username you want to log in as, and type the password for that user.

I don't know if this works, if you use hibernate or standby.

EDIT:

Forgot to say, this does not work if you are logging on to a domain.

The registry tree directory for CSS 7 is different than the one described. Which CSS7 key did you modify to disable Password Manager? Thanks.

I have CSS 6.0 on my T43p but I don't see this KEY.
Where I must change Disable from 0 to 1?
Why my T43p mount Secure Drive on logon if I have disabled the 'automount' option in CSS->Protect Data->Options?

HI Guys,

i disabled the PW Manager by setting the following registry entries to 0

HKLM/SOFTWARE/IBM Thinkvantage/CSS

- PwMgrInstalled changed from 1 to 0
- UsingPWManager from 1 to 0

After the changes the PW manager wasnt started after a reboot but i have no idea (by now) if other CSS functions are affected by the changes.

Give it a try if U want

If you download and install the Rescue and Recovery and Client Secutiry Solution Toolkit (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... TVAN-ADMIN), you have the option to disable the password manager with Group Policies.
Download and install the toolkit.
Go to: Start -> run and type gpedit.msc.
Add the css.adm from the toolkit in the Administrative Templates, and configure the Password manager to be disabled.

Or you can simply go into Add/Remove and click on Client Security Solutions .. choose MODIFY .... click the + sign beside Password Manager ... and choose the option to disable it

START>programs>thinkvantage>client security solution

Then click on "manage logon passwords" which will open "TV password manager"

"set preferences>advanced" uncheck "enable password manager...
