firefox text wrapping

this is probably the most simple solution ever, but i cant figure it out. for some reason firefox is displaying posts on here that go past the screen resolution (1024x768) and make me scroll to the right to read everything. anyone know why it isnt fitting everything in?

I think this is caused by poor web design. If the developer uses tables with a fixed width, like 1200px, your browser has no chance but to show scroll bars.

I use Opera 8.54 which has a button "Fit to window width", which works. Oddly enough, most of the time I don't even have to click on it. For instance, on the following page which I bookmarked, the long URL's I posted wrap at the punctuation marks.

On the next page, which I bookmarked, it does require clicking on the "Fit to window width" button to make the page fit on the screen horizontally.

Additionally, Opera 8.54 supports horizontal scrolling with the TrackPoint.

Opera is free, and works with a number of different operating systems. It turns out that Opera is now at version 9. I beta tested version 9 (of an earlier build than present) about a month ago, but it did not work well for me. It was crash prone, and the horizontal scrolling feature did not work. It does include widgets, but so far they don't interest me. Version 8.54 is still available. Personally, I am leary of going back to version 9 just yet.

Was just an example.
If you referr to this forum, it's still related to programming. If someone posts a huge URL, the forum script will not wrap text, but extents the table width. So, no reason to blame the forum owner, but the developer.

orevin- i knew what you were saying- but thought if i had the chance to induce burning at the stake, id have to jump on it.

gomjabber- both of your links made me have to scroll- which i think was your point anyway, that opera works well with that. i did try it, but got so consumed in customizing and making it a spyware and java resistant force, that i ruined its functionality and headed back to firefox. default is no fun!

There is a URL-shorten firefox extension called "Tinyurl Creator". I found it really useful especially it allows you to press a button and change a long URL address into http://tinyurl.com/xxxxx and automatically copied into clipboard(memory) for you to paste on to anywhere(like this forum).

I'm running Firefox 1.5.0.3 on a 1280 x 1024 screen. The first link in GomJabbar's post does in fact result in a page that runs off my screen. However, when I make the text one size smaller than "normal," it then fits fine.

I use Maxthon and have only seen this problem when someone loads an image too large to fit the resolution thereby "Breaking the Forums" as it is commonly called. Plus Maxthon has neat plugins like Firefox and doesn't call an error for a 404, thereby hijacking the very system until you have paid attention to whatever tab is the 404....
