Thinkpad has quite a lot softwares. For XP, I usually disable all unnecesary services to save for performance.

For thinkpad, can somebody shed light or compile a comprehensive list of all softwares by ibm and list its importance to stable running of XP?

Here is something that I am interested to know of:

certtool.exe
tphdexlg.exe
uvmserv.exe
..........

run hijackthis from your c drive. copy the log file and paste it in at www.hijackthis.de - it should tell you about the running processes and if anyone else has reported what they do.

Thanks, that is a nice little utility.

If the rest of the program doesn't trouble you the "Software Explorer" functionality of Windows Defender will tell you about all the currently running apps, and all that launch at boot time, etc, etc, etc.
