Warranty status - Germany instead of Denmark...?

#1 Post by mhca » Thu Jul 06, 2006 2:28 am

Hi everybody.

I made a friend of mine realise that he had to buy a Thinkpad even though they cost a bit extra.

He ordered an IBM T42 which he got today and I asked him to go check the Warranty status right away.

At Location it says Germany.
The part number of the machine is UC2K1DK... with DK for Denmark at the end. Why is it registered to have warranty in Germany and will this mean that all his problems with the computer should be directed to IBM in Germany or will IBM Denmark service him?

Bump.

If anybody knows the answer to this I'd like to know. I haven't got the notebooks serial so can't ask IBM myself and he haven't cared to check it himself.

But I am so curious :-)

I just noticed this reply on a Danish forum
http://www.hol.dk/traad.asp?fID=24&tID=297620#22 (reply #22)

He writes that without a receipt from the country where the computer has registered its warranty, IBM Denmark wont give warranty.

And also that he therefore will lose IBM World Service.

I'm sorry if it is against the forum rules but I'm gonna give this thread another *Bump*
Since my sister badly needs a laptop and wants to order one of the following weekdays. So if anybody can comment further on the warranty if or if not the IBM warranty is global and independant on where the machine is registered for warranty.
