72W versus higher rated AC power adapters for A31?

I remember having read somewhere that instead of using the standard 72 W AC power adapter for the A31 a higher rated adapter can be used. (with my 2.6 G CPU the laptop can draw over 6 A when running at full tilt, adapter gets pretty hot....)

Called IBM support and they cannot give me any part numbers.

Is anyone familiar with this matter and can they recommend which adapter will be compatible with the A31 (16V / 4.5 A / 72W) preferably in the 90W / 120W versions?

(5.5 OD plug, centre is positive)

Many thanks
Marinus

I don't know the part number or anything, but I understand the adapter for the G Series machines have higher wattage rating. Hopefully somebody else has or experience on using that part than I do and can give you anything to watch out for.

Thanks for the reply. It is one I have been looking at. They are 120W but I do not know if the connector is the same. Perhaps someone who has a G series model can measure the plug to see if it is 5.5 mm OD and if the centre is positive (as displayed on the label).
