im trying to figure out if taking forever is the nature of the game, or if i have a problem. ive used nero 6 and dvd shrink to rip the dvd to the hard drive, and both took a ridiculous amount of time- close to 45 minutes for a full length dvd. the burning only takes about 8 minutes, but this ripping business is frustrating..
anyone experience similar times?

45 minutes is actually pretty good, if this includes the analyzing and compression of the video.

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but....I rip them to a blank DVD within about 25-35 minutes, using CloneDVD and AnyDVD. This process includes going from the original DVD, to the hard drive, and then to the blank DVD all in one step.
A friend of mine also uses DVD Shrink, but it takes him about 15-20 to the hard drive, but he is using a kick [censored] system that has an AMD FX-55 processor, 2gb ram, and a 250 7200rpm drive that is raided.
Exclaimer: I use this process for backing up my OWN DVDs, to protect them from a hyperactive 4 year old.

It really depends on the DVD but I average 12-19 min on my t42 1.8ghz 1.5GB ram running on Ubuntu Linux or through a Windows Virtual Machine on the same. I take my DVDs and shink them down to a 4GB iso file to carry on my laptop or portable drive so I can watch them on the road.

Hi
It really depends..I used my A31(sold 2 days ago) to make a backup of my DVDs..
I used DVDShrinks or DVDFabDecrypter..usually the process took 25min..but with SONY-DVDs..took 45min
