White patches on screen

I bought another Thinkpad...a T22 off of ebay a couple of weeks ago,...as far as i could see everything checked out ok.

Nice little spare lappy.

Apart from checking it out i hadn't used it untill today.

Booted it up today and noticed that there are white patches along the bottom of the screen... middle of and slightly higher than the task bar....stretch along about 4 or 5"...didn't noticed them before...just had it on for 10min or so to check the specs etc...been on for a few hours now so very noticeable.

Have tried to take a screen shot but they don't show up on pic.

Been searching here and the net but can't really find anything relevant...only mentions of white patches are 'screen burns'. These patches look a little like pyramid shaped graph marks...very bright.

Anyone dealt with anything like this... had any of these on their screen...does it spread etc can i do anything to get rid of them or is the screen going?

i think you're talking about artifacts- do some searching on that topic.

These are called pressure marks. I have to noticeable ones on my T21, but they don't bother me. They are only noticeable on light backgrounds.

Thanks...will try and get a pic when camera batteries are charged.

I've been searching artifacts and pressure marks and they don't seem to relate.

These are there when the machine is first switched on and while the screen is still black - the only way i can describe it is - the patches are along the bottom of the screen...as if white light is 'bleeding' up from the bottom of the screen ..they stay as patches once machine is fully booted...doesn't matter what colour background they show bright white all the time.

There's a 30 day return to base warranty but as yet no response from seller that's why i was worrying if the screen is going...if they are nothing to worry about then i can live with them...but if screen is on it's way out!!!!

It could very well just be bleeding from the CCFL (backlight). It happens from time to time, epsecially if there had been a repair to the display/LCD.
