Hi, first time poster but I’ve been lurking for a bit and I was wondering if someone here could help me with a quick question. Im kind of an idiot when it comes to this stuff so be kind.

I was looking to buy a ThinkPad (z60m) for school and after customizing it with everything I want/need I reach the Warranties section of their page and get lost.

They have two sections that I do not understand the differences between the two since their descriptions read exactly the same.

The first is "Warranty service upgrades" which offers, for example, "Warranty service upgrade; 1 year onsite repair 9x5/next business day [add $49.00]"

The second section is the "Extended service contracts" which has "Extended Service Contract 1 YR onsite repair 9x5 next day [add $49.00]"

My question is, what are the differences between the two? Should I get a 3 year Warranty or should I select from the second option and get a 3 year extended service contract? Or are they two different things and I should get one of each?

I figured out what the protection plan is (the third option in the section) but I havent been able to figure out the differences between the first two.

the ability to be confusing..

they sound the same..

i assume your standard warranty is 1 year depot..??
i would extend the warranty and add the on site for a full 3 years..
assumign you intend to keep that thinkpad for 3 years..

Someone on another forum I posted this on just responded saying that they thought the Warranty is more for a business while the extended service contract is for the normal everyday user (me). Would you agree with this comment?

it could be that one is for business users and the other is for non-business users..

that might be the difference..

note that warranty is really a type of insurance and each state has different insurance regulations..

This is along the same lines, so I figured I would post here rather than in a new thread.

I'm configuring a T60p (one of the sale models) and I'm running into an error on their site. There are three different warranty services they offer near the bottom of the page:

"Warranty service upgrades" (for business users)
"Extended service contracts" (for personal users)
"Protection services" (oops I spilled water on it)

I'd like to buy the latter two upgrades, as I want both on-site warranty service, and protection from accidental damage. However, when I select both of them, the website returns this error:

"Please choose only one of these services: protection service, upgrade service or protection service bundled with an upgrade."

Does anyone know why they don't let you choose the protection service and a better warranty? Is there any way of selecting both that I haven't figured out yet? Has anyone dealt with their customer service about this issue?
