XGA panel on SXGA+ cable ??

Hello,
I've read here that SXGA+ LCD panels require the special SXGA+ cable. Presumably the higher resolution has special requirements.
However, what about the other direction ?
Will an XGA LCD panel work properly on an SXGA+ cable ? Or does one have to "downgrade" the cable as well ?
I'm referring to T22, in case there is a difference between series and/or models in this.
Thanks!
