I think (dont quote me) that this directory is used to store the backups of all drivers. Software installer uses it to determine which drivers need to be updated, and it provides the critical service of backing up all updated drivers on your system. Its nice to know if I need to revert to an earlier BIOS, its already sitting there in this folder. That said, im not completely sure if it can be safely deleted, but I wouldnt recommend it.

You can delete all the self-extracting *.exe installer files in that directory and leave the two text files alone (they are manifests and logs for the Software Installer). :)
