Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 Compatibility Problem with T42p
I have tried to install IE7 Beta 3 on my T42p notebook but I continue to have problems. First, IE7 wouldn't install, but upon looking at the IE7beta.log file, it was a permissions problems with a registry key HKLM/Classes/https. I changed the Administrators permissions (as pointed out in a Microsoft IE7 Beta 3 trobleshooting article) to Full Control. After changing the permissions for this registry key, the product installed successfully (or so it said).
However, after rebooting and logging on to my Windows user account, I immediately get several (20-25) error popups saying Windows cannot access certain files in the Rescue and Recovery and Thinkvantage program files folders, that there may be a permissions problem, as well as a string of reg.exe and xcopy.exe errors. After clicking these popups away, the IE7 appears to work OK. After troubleshooting this a bit, I have noticed the following:
1. If I uninstall Rescue and Recovery, there are no error popups. Everything seems to be fine.
2. If I reinstall R & R, the problems immediately return. No matter what order I uninstall/reinstall IE7 Beta 3 and R & R, if they are both installed, I have problems with error popups logging on.
3. I installed and ran IE7 Beta 2 without any problems whatsoever.
4. If I uninstall IE7 Beta 3, Windows runs IE6 as before with no problems.
5. FYI, I keep my T42p up to date with all system updates from IBM (including the most recent one) and all Windows updates from Microsoft Update.
Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone have some insights for me to get rid of this annoying problem?
Thanks in advance.

beta software is just that, beta and not to be released or used in production environments.
I found this fix on another site, it worked for one of my clients.

Indeed. MS has a pretty stern warning against using beta software in any environment that's not explicity for development and/or testing. IE7 is not an end-user product yet. It's released for developers to test their applications against.
If you have a problem with it... then you should modify your code, or if you believe the problem is with IE, send a stack trace to MS's IE team so that it can be fixed before IE 7 goes final.

R50e and IE7
I have the identical symptoms as “PeteS5457” when trying to use the latest version of IE7. This is on an R50e. Have updated all the think vantage software but this does not help.
I wonder if this issue has been solved by “PeteS5457”
I have put in a support message to think vantage, but got no response apart from the standard computer generated acknowledgement.
Does this mean that I have to continue with Firefox! (I have no problem with that).
