I assume this was an option for some Thinkpad model but I have no info on it. Looks like it needs its own AC adaptor and has a battery pack installed. I'm not familiar with the connection plugs. What else do I need to plug this into a machine?

On a related question, what is the IBM IDE PCMCIA card pn 19K4494 used for? I have nothing that it plugs into.

Not familiar with the model with the battery pack, but the IBM IDE PCMCIA connectors that I have seen and used go along with either the External CDROM unti or an external and enclosed Travelstar HDD with a proprietary interface. :)

The external optical drive I had was a Panasonic PD-RAM/CD-ROM device that needed AC power to operate and plugged into my 701c via an IBM PCMCIA card with a "spread out" interface. I used several similar things for connecting the TravelStar IBM HDD to my Thinkpads as well...still works as a matter of fact.

Do you have pictures of either? :)
