R52 embedded controller program update does not work

I am trying to update to latest R52 EC program. I downloaded update program, run it with full batteries and a/c adapter connected and so on... Program restarts and ask few questions. Then it says "updating ....". BUT!
Sometimes nothing happens after that. I have waited for very long time. Couple of times I got "unexpected error" in red window. Thinkpad boots ok when I power off and disconnect a/c and battery. But EC program remains older one.
I need to update since I have some problems with keyboard and new version claims to fix them.
Any suggestions?

Try the diskette version. I know Windows programs sometimes mess with BIOS updates, not letting them install, so I imagine the same would be true of EC updates. Of course you need a floppy drive for the diskette version.

EDIT: One other thing, check the security setting in the BIOS for allowing flashing of the BIOS.

I do not have USB floppy and do not want to buy one just for this purpose. Any other suggestions?

Issue solved. UI mode does not work but running update program unattended, like e.g. C:\Temp\76HJ05US.EXE -s -a -s. Program then runs without any user interaction and, most important, updates successfully.
