Caps Lock to Control and Trackpad tapping in Windows?

I've remapped my Caps Lock key to act like a Control key by <a href="http://johnhaller.com/jh/useful_stuff/d ... >modifying the scan code mapping in the registry</a>. This low-level hack works great in pretty much all applications. However, it doesn't work well with the UltraNav Trackpad tapping. I'm trying to control-click on links in Firefox. If I use the regular control key it works fine, but the remapped caps lock doesn't.
I'm guessing the mouse driver is being a bit too clever and trying to protect me from miss-taps. Any idea how to work around this behaviour in the mouse driver? Or is there an alternate caps lock to control mapping that works well everywhere?
(PS: while it's true CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL, it seems a bit silly to devote the fifth biggest button on the keyobard to it.)
