upgrading RAM

#1 Post by Jonathan Cordery » Wed Sep 27, 2006 1:54 pm

I am thinking of buying 1Gb (P/N 31P9834) of RAM for my T41p which currently has the original 512 mb of RAM. The question is once I install the 1Gb of RAM will it then mean that I'll have 1.5 Gb of RAM or will i have to remove the 512 mb first and only have 1 Gb?

It depends. If the 512MB of RAM is on one module, then yes, that 512MB module will be located under the keyboard. If it is split between two modules, then you will have to remove one to add the 1GB module. The second memory slot is located under a cover on the bottom of the ThinkPad, and is easily accessible. The first memory slot under the keyboard is harder to get to, but you can change the module in there too if you like. ThinkPads come from the factory with a memory module the primary slot. Normally the second slot on the bottom will be empty.
