T30 / Win2K / Service Partition???

#1 Post by Bg357 » Fri Oct 06, 2006 11:18 pm

I purchased a used T30 running Win2K and it seemed to have all the original drivers and configuration, including the original recovery tools.
Unfortunately, as I've learned more about the original IBM configuration, I've discovered that this unit isn't original. It doesn't have a service partition and the ConfigSafe program doesn't seem to work. It's always wanting to take snapshots of the system configuration but when you open the program for any kind of recovery, nothing seems to work.

Anyway, my question is this. I've found bits & pieces of the answer by searching previous posts but I'd appreciate if someone could pull it all together.
Is it possible and if so how can I return this T30 to it's original configuration, with service partition? I hate WinXP so I want to stay with Win2K. According to IBM, they don't supply recovery discs for unsupported operating systems so even if they had recovery discs for my T30, it would be for XP. I have a Win2K disc & COA, is there a way to get the original config back & load the OPSYS from my own disc? I'm fairly computer savvy but I feel like a beginner reading some of the posts around here, so go easy on me. :?
