Anybody seen windows IP disappearing before?
When you type ipconfig
It just says "windows IP configuration" one line, nothing else When you goto the support tab on the Lan icon, it doesn't even give an IP address, it's all grey like the background. Not 0.0.0.0 not 169.. Just nothing.
help?
Thanks

If ipconfig shows nothing, perhaps it cannot find the NIC. Uninstall the NIC and re-install it. Make sure you have the latest drivers for it on the machine and exploded ready to go before you uninstall the NIC. ... JD Hurst

Maybe you need to remove TCP/IP and reinstall it?

Check device manager, see if you have any red X's on your lan card. I see this a lot with nics that are fried by lightning strikes.

just tried the reinstall thing

Given all you have said against all the advice offered, then it appears to be system rebuild time at this point.

Not sure if it will help, but I had a similar experience after having dowloaded and installed PC Doctor 5 for windows using the S/W installer:

The IP symptoms are exactly the same though. My only solution so far is has been to rebuild from scratch.

The utility from
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
is a life saver.

before more drastic solutions, try this and see if it helps.
Start -->
Run -->
cmd hit ENTER
type
netsh winsock reset hit ENTER, reboot.
I think what pietjepuk pointed is a small software that does just this, plus backs up your registry settings.
