I've been a loyal thinkpad user since 1999. I relly like the hardware, but the Access Connections software has never really liked me or the networks that I've used. I am a real estate agent with multiple offices, a home network and several construction sites that all have various settings. Access Connections seldom just works when I boot up at a location with a profile setup. I usually need to go into the properties for my adapter and switch to let windows handle the connection management. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? Is there a good alternate profile management tool that anyone can recommend? I searched the forums, but didn't really find anything that directly deals with an alternative.
Thanks in advance.
Joe
Access Connections Replacement
I use AC with a lot of profiles with different settings since i configure and install wireless networks for customers. I find it to work very good and don't have any of the symptoms you describe. I also like the option to specify proxy server, static/dynamic ip and stuff like that since this sites require different settings. Since several of these customers use authentication types not supported native by WinXP like LEAP, EAP-FAST and PEAP-GTC i cannot use the built-in wireless support in windows anyway. Actually i think AC is one of the best client i seen and a lot better then Intel Proset or the Atheros client. I also been using AEGIS SecureConnect client from meetinghouse (actually bought by Cisco now) which i would also recommend.
Since a lot of people use the AC client without the problems you describe i guess the problem is more related to something on your computer then a general AC problem. I'm thinking about a software problem and not hardware. Not very helpful i guess, but you could try the AEGIS SecureConnect client. In the past it was possible to download a 30 days evaluation copy of the client, but not sure if that is still possible since i cannot find that option after they were acquired by Cisco.

You can download a 30 day trial version of MultiNetwork Manager. Disclaimer: I have not used this software and don't know how well it works. If you try MultiNetwork Manager, please let us know what you think.
