New batch of updates (Oct, 2006)

There are new ThinkPad updates out starting in Mid-October.

So, with Internet Explorer now running on my T41, and cognizant of some recent comments, here is what I found:

1. Software Installer is still working (latest version) and finding some, but not all updates.
2. Software Installer is working alongside IE7 just fine.
3. There are updates for Active Protection (relevant models); Ultra Nav Wizard (not driver - relevant models); ThinkPad Configuration Utility; Keyboard Customized Utility.
4. I downloaded these manually (like I always do) and exploded them into C:\DRIVERS\WINXPP (deleting the folders for prior versions first).
5. I used Software Installer to install them all - and it did.
6. All seems well.

Have you tried System Update 2 alongside IE7? :)

It appears they are migrating the matrix of updates over to SU2 from SI...but there is still stuff that you have to use both to get as they don't appear on one but do on the other.

No. I like my downloads organized to my specific technique and liking. So I continued to go to the website, download and explode what I want. Software Installer is the only tool that can deal with this (or, at least, I could not get this to work with System Update).

The thing I think is missing from System Update is, simply, a list showing which version of that particular software package you have installed, if any at all. Maybe I am missing it, but I don't think so.

By the way, have you tried PerfectDisk 8.0 yet? :D

Yes. I was part of their beta program as well. PD 8 got out with a scheduling bug which I provided information about. They have issued a patch so that PD 8 is now at build 35. Very good and very fast. This is the best of V6, V7 and V8. ... JD Hurst

Awesome; I heard a little about that and I now have 8.0.35 and the scheduling and Offline defrags work as they should. Overall, it is pretty quick and works like a treat. :)

Agreed re: PD 8.0 (Build 35). Wonderful program. Bought version 7, I think, on jd's advice a while back...
