Bad NIC

My Brother who has never owned a Thinkpad before was offered an A21P for $150.It has a bad NIC.What does this mean and is this a good deal?Thanks

A NIC is a RJ45 network connector and card combo for ethernet networking.

Some A21p's did not ship with a NIC so the port may just be a dummy but bad NICs on the A2x series machines are a known defect. A replacement PCMCIA NIC can be had for less than $20-30 on eBay so that it not a big deal. $150 is a little high but fair.

Thanks.He is only going to use this for internet access with a PCMIA adapter card.I assume this makes the NIC unnecessary.

Forgot to add that machine has 512MB.Maybe that makes it a better deal.
