fan is always freaking running.

When I had my dell d800 I had the choice to use i8kfangui to control the fans or even turn them off until the temps reached a certain level. My T60's fans are always on. The fan makes a very faint high pitched noise which is annoying when the room is silent and you're trying to sleep. So I was wondering if this knowledgeable community knows if my temps are too high, if there is a way to trigger the fan to start on a certain temp, and if there are other known solutions for this kind of problem. I saw some articles on thinkwiki and here and there doesn't seem to be a definite answer from the research I've done. Here are my temps with the utility and just browsing the internet. My d800 had gpu temp of 50 from what I remember. The thinkpad is noticeably higher.

66° is a tad high for the CPU running, but that GPU temperature is especially high; under what kind of idle conditions are these for both CPU and GPU?

What kind of power profile are you running? Is your CPU running at full speed and somewhere near 100% at 66C?

power profile is set to thinkpad default. The gpu is high and I have 3 windows of IE running. 1 for the forums, 2nd for another forums, and 3rd for just browsing on google. That's it.

If you look at the processes using Task Manager, what process(es) is/are using up the CPU?

tpfancontrol works on these right? I don't see why it wouldn't.

There has been a lot of talk on the GPU temp and the fan noise the T60 series produce. Indeed it has to do with the thermal compound used, as the GPU makes contact with kind of thermal pad, but very thick other user posted pics.
Check this:

the only issue I can think of to open your machine and do some modding, this off course, not for the fainted heart. Also, there's some kind of locking mechanism for the heatsink, so If you remove those 2mm thermal pads, you will need to place a piece of cooper and then apply Arctic Silver 5. This is yield a very positive result doing it on a T4x series heatsink, of course the M10 or M24 heatsink (like mine)
