Just curious, I have a t42p with an ultrabay hard drive caddy, but, I also have a 560z that I need to reformat, but, don't have a floppy or cd drive for. I can easily take the drive out and put it in my ultrabay caddy in my t42p, but, i was just wondering, is there any way I can actually install the operating system onto it from there from within windows?

I thought it'd be simple, as in win98 you could format a drive with the dos startup files there, but, XP seems to lack that functionality.

Thank you in advance.

There is a install over network option, but I have not worked with it at all. Have to checked the MS Knowledge Base?

I think to install over the network you need a lan card with a boot rom, or you need to be able to boot it and load the lan card drivers and point it to the server.

Tricky problem installing an old OS without a floppy nor CDROM drive.

Hrm... As I recall, you can install Win from one partition onto another...

I think I made my point rather badly , I don't want to do a network install.. all i want to do is this:

Install windows 98, or at least make the hard drive bootable into a dos OS to install windows 98, on a 4gB laptop hard drive I can put into my ultrabay slim on my t42

The result of which will be to get windows running on my 560z (no floppy/cd drive)
