ThinkVantage Power Manager problems (software)

#1 Post by ulrich.von.lich » Fri Nov 24, 2006 9:44 am

Hi everyone,

Here's something weird:

All my power schemes in Power Manager are now gone*, and I cannot create any new power scheme either. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the Battery Maximiser that I installed recently(from Software Installer).

I've tried reinstalling the Power Manager, as well as Power Management Driver and SATA Power Management Driver(even tho I don't know the difference between them) but none of them could work.

Does somebody have experienced the same problem?

Thanks,
Anthony

*: When I press F3 + Fn, there'll be only 2 options in the popup window, Turn Off the Screen and Maximum Battery Life scheme, which can not be modified

I saw it happen when I was logged in as a regular user; I had run the power manager and changed a setting as an adminstrator. After that, power manager was just as you described it. I brought the computer back to normal by restoring the machine from an old image.

I have the same problem as Ulrich describes. It happened today, the presets are all gone and I can't create a new power scheme.

Is there really no way to do it an easier way than restoring the system the way smvp6459 described? I'm starting to get a little annoyed by several small problems with the Thinkvantage software, this isn't exactly the first problem I've encountered during about a month of using it.

I tackled the same problem (and actually won!) See the following thread, especially GomJabbar's input here:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=18823

Follow CChoi83's instructions (go on, be brave!) and you should get some schemes back. Once you've got GomJabbar's schemes, you should be able to modify them or create your own. Worked for me . . . hope it does for you!

Thanks a lot! Somehow it started working like normal again before I read that thread , and I don't know exactly what I did that fixed it, but I have checked it out and know where to look if it'd happen again. :)
