features missing from R-e series and trackpoints
features missing from R-e series and trackpoints
I have an R50e and, among other features it lacks (that none -e ThinkPads have) is an ejectable UltraBay drive and a Trackpad. This makes me wonder if the R60e has these same limitations and if these limitations are present on all -e ThinkPads. Any ideas?
Also, I, personally, prefer TrackPoints to TrackPads. None of the Lenovo 3000 series, however, seem to have TrackPoints. This makes me slightly worried that ThinkPad's might not have them too much longer. Is this a bonafide concern or am I just being paranoid?

All signs indicate that trackpoints are here to stay; the Lenovo design blog had a feature on them a few months ago, too. Apart from the Z series, all ThinkPads have the trackpoint -- and the R60e and X series have only trackpoints.yawnmoth wrote:Also, I, personally, prefer TrackPoints to TrackPads. The Lenovo 3000 Series is a different, consumer oriented, line of laptops from Lenovo and aren't real Thinkpads. Hence, there will be no removal of the Trackpoint from future Thinkpads, this includes the Z Series. The only Thinkpads that didn't have Trackpoints were far in the past and few in number (the models escape my memory at this time). In addition, here is the link for the Lenovo Design Blogs.

She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Oops, my mistake on the Z series!christopher_wolf wrote:The Lenovo 3000 Series is a different, consumer oriented, line of laptops from Lenovo and aren't real Thinkpads. Hence, there will be no removal of the Trackpoint from future Thinkpads, this includes the Z Series.
It's also worth noting that most other major manufacturers include a trackpoint equivalent on their business models, including HP, Toshiba and Dell. Notably Apple and Sony don't really target the corporate laptop market ...

Yes, the R60e (and other "e" ThinkPad's) do have these limitations and the reason that they have these limitations is because they are economy models.yawnmoth wrote:I have an R50e and, among other features it lacks (that none -e ThinkPads have) is an ejectable UltraBay drive and a Trackpad.
