Recovery Fails to Start

#1 Post by mdjohnson » Sun Nov 26, 2006 5:01 am

Hi

First things first, I'm using an X31.

I updated my IBM utilities via the updater, and one of the things it did was change the pre-boot environment you get when you press the blue button at boot (from the IBM one to the ThinkVantage one).

Anyway, I'd quite like to do a factory restore, but although the partition is still there and I can choose the recovery option, all it does is says that I need to reboot, I click OK, then it reboots straight into windows

Any help would be much appreciated, as I really could do with a fresh install.

Cheers

If the hidden partition fails to restore to factory, you can use the recovery CDs to restore, though this will take a longer time.

You may also try this. Download from here:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-54483

an utility (.exe if you will boot from floppy, .iso if you will boot from cd) which rebuilds the MBR, incorporating in it the support for booting from the hidden partition.

I used it on my T60, and regained acces to the R&R hidden partition by pressing the blue button at boot.

According to the OP he was able to start the recovery option but after reboot, it just goes straight to windows without processing the factory restore.
