www.costcentral.com and
www.euclidcomputers.com still have lots of T43's, but only several T42's. Also, check out the $899 SXGA+ T43 on sale at Lenovo Outlet. However, it's safer to get a T42, because most T43's have serious fan noise problems.

~$930
i did notice that $799 t43 at the Lenovo Outlet. i was actually more tempted by the $899 t43 with the 1400x1050 display.
since this is for a client it looks like it will be easier to pickup a t43 (there's new t42s on ebay but my client may not want to purchase from there).
is the t43 fan noise problem fixable?
ciao,
david

Basically T43s run pretty hot, and as th CPU temperature rises, the system turns on the fan. There are some things you can do:
- Replace the existing CPU thermal compound with something like Arctic Silver, which will improve the CPU cooling (and reduce the fan requirement)
- Run tpfancontrol to reduce the fan speed (preferably after the Arctic Silver application) and/or increase temperature threshold
- Run NHC to reduce the CPU voltage and thus reduce the heat output
You could do one, two or three of the above, depending on how much effort noise reduction is worth to you ...

thanks for the info tomh009.
if i can locate a t42 or 41 easily i'll purchase it. otherwise i think i'll just go ahead and order the t43 from the Lenovo Outlet and be done with it. if i purchase the t43 i'll undervolt the processor to cool the cpu. this will actually work well for this client who will be running the laptop off of solar power.
thanks,
david
