Trackpoint driver update affecting mouse

I recently did an update to the driver for Trackpoint through my Software Installer. Now my Microsoft Optical Mouse has changed properties. I notice there is also now a Trackpoint Tab on my Intellipoint Software program for configuring my Trackpoint stuff, but I normally use a mouse. The thing that has changed is my middle mouse button used to switch between my open windows and also scroll, now it will only scroll. I disabled Trackpoint in my Configuration utility but it still hasn't fixed this. Any thoughts? When I open up my Mouse program a box pops up that says some mouse features may not be available unless I use a USB mouse - mine actually is a USB mouse with a PS2 adapter (I'm plum out of USB ports).

Yeah, I've seen this happening.
Uninstall trackpoint software, uninstall MS Intellimouse software, reboot. Then install trackpoint first, reboot. Then install Intellimouse, reboot. Let's see if it helps.

I'll try that. This may be a stupid question, but if i uninstall Intellipoint software is there still a driver in windows so I can operate my mouse to re-install of this stuff? Wouldn't that be something, a nice laptop and no way to drive it :shock:

edited to say I guess there is a plug-n-play for my mouse even without the software. Never Mind :?

When I installed my Microsoft wireless notebook mouse software (Intellipoint), it apparently overwrote the Trackpoint software. There is no Trackpoint tab in Mouse properties, it's all Microsoft stuff. And the middle button no longer scrolled (until I set it to Microsoft's scrolling function).

Any way to keep the Intellipoint software from overwriting the Trackpoint software? I usually use the Trackpoint device but sometimes when I'm doing a lot of work I plug in the USB mouse receiver and use the Microsoft wireless mouse.

And how does one get the Trackpoint functionality back?

Thanks.

@ganttguy

Probably if you just uninstall the Microsoft wireless notebook mouse software, you can still use your mouse, but you just won't have access to it's special features.

You can reinstall the Trackpoint software if needed. Download from IBM/Lenovo's site or reinstall from your hard drive. Look for SETUP.EXE in the C:\DRIVERS\WIN\TRACKPT\ folder, or C:\DRIVERS\WIN\UNAV\ folder. The UNAV folder is for the UltraNav driver, which is used if you also have a Touchpad. [These are the locations where the drivers are located on my T42 - on your ThinkPad it's possible that these locations will be different.]

Ganttguy, yes, I installed my Intellipoint software months ago and never noticed any Trackpoint tab on it, until last week when I did a driver update through Software Installer. I did see it was giving me a Trackpoint update that it said I needed, but afterwards I noticed my mouse middle button no longer switched open pages, it just scrolled. When I open the mouse software I noticed the added Trackpoint tab. I guess I will keep it as I sometimes like to use Trackpoint for a thrill, my dear husband just can't maneuver that little eraserhead. So apparently if you do a driver update for the trackpoint after you install the intellipoint software, it will put the tab into your mouse software.
